For example, select rows 1 to 20 with cell a1 as the active cell.
In conditional formatting change Cell Value is to Formula is =Countif($A1,"*total*) Set your format OK out. So you write the formula so it is appropriate for the activecell and use combinations of relative and absolute references so it is adjusted properly.
