Default Deleting Calculated Fields from Pivot Tables

Has anyone else had trouble with Excel Crashing when deleting a
calculated field from a PivotTable?

I'm using Excel 2000 with the latest service package installed. I've
tried on a couple of different PCs, but it always has the same effect.

Is there another way to delete them other than:

Right Click on Pivot table data
Formulas
Calculated Field
then select field for deletion from drop down
Hit delete
click ok

It starts to process the request and at the half way point, I get this
message

"EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You
will need to restart the program.
An Error log is being created."

Then EXCEL closes.

I've tried it many, many times. I've rebooted... I was wondering if
maybe somehow it's the file, but it doesn't seem to be.

Has this happened to anyone else?
