Default Custom Character or re-defining a character

To All,

I'd like to have an underline character that contains an arrowhead pointing
left
and
another underline character that contains an arrowhead pointing right ?

Is it possible to re-define a character ... such as the "double underline"
character for such a purpose?

JimP
