Default Newcomer to VBA; trouble with strings?

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and got the error
message:-

Run-time error '1004':

SQL Syntax Error

Strangely enough though the VB editor highlights the

line .Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False

rather than the one with my problematic variable in.
