Default Drop Down List

There are instructions on the following page that you should be able to
adapt to your worksheet:

I am wondering if there is a way to include a drop down
list on an Excel Spreadsheet that would have a list of
numbers that would be used in a column to assign room
numbers to the people listed in the rows. Once the room
number is assigned, I would like to have that number
removed from the drop down list so that it can't be
assigned to another person.

I have looked at custom controls(list boxes and drop-down
list boxes) but they only seem to work with one cell not
an entire column. Any suggestions?
