Default Can Excel VBA work outside Excel?

Is it possible to write a VBA script in Excel that would
delete all files in a given folder?

My system - used by remote users - saves Excel into a
specific folder, each time with a unique filename.
However, with time the folder gets cluttered up with
outdated files. I'd like to have a macro clear it out
periodically. Is this possible?

TIA
Paul
