Default closing instatiated apps

I have been instantiating instances of MS-EXCEL from within MS-ACCESS
but have not been able to close the client application. Thus, I finish
doing whatever it is I need to do in EXCEL want to close it, but it
stays in ram. ???

From Excel VBA, the command is Application.Quit.
