Default macro to run automatically

The workbook containing the macro would have to be open to run the macro.

You may want to look at a scheduler program (some versions of windows have
this built in, but there are lots of shareware programs that do it, too
(www.shareware.com).)

Then that windows scheduler program can start your file(s) (data and macro) and
the workbook could have an auto_open macro that runs when the workbook opens.

is it possible to have a macro run on it's own on a daily
basis without having to open the spreadsheet?
