Default When I hit shift + left click highlighted object stuck.

I am having trouble with Microsoft Office Excel 2000. Mouse button appears to
be stuck down and it is happening now in every program. Only know way out is
a reboot. However, doing this 7 times a day is ridiculous. Is there a back
way out after hitting shift + left click?
TIA

Hi Shawn

If this is happening all the time and you have not made any changes to
programs / drivers etc then I would suggest getting a New mouse.
