Default Error Message for Pivot Table

I'm trying to create a pivot table from an external Access Database. It
allows me to get the data all the way until the last step of the wizard.
When doing the layout of the pivot table, it gives me the below error message:

"invalid character value for cast specification on column number 7." The
field in column 7 is an amount field. In the Access table, it is set as a
decimal.

Can anyone help? I've never had this error message come up before, and I
deal with the same type of data all of the time.
