Default Inventory lists, or databases ?

I want to keep an inventory of an item. When the inventory falls below a
certain amount, is it possible to be flagged somehow? Some kind of
notification given to me ? And by which program?

Scott,
Take a look at Conditional Formatting.
It is on the Format menu.
It can change the color of a cell depending on the value in the cell.
