How do I prevent the date from changing in a saved Excel document when I open
it at a later date? I create bids and invoices in my business and the date
field is very important.
Pardon my ignorance and possibly ineptitude, but I have found no answer in
the on-line help.

Don't use a formula. Type in the date itself.

If you want to use today's date, you can use a shortcut:
ctrl-; (control semicolon)

Do not use the =TODAY() or =NOW() formulas for your dates.........they are
volatile and perform just the way you describe. Hand type the date where
you want it to stay, or use Ctrl and semicolon or set the datestamp with a
macro.
