Default Send as Attachment

I am trying to send an Excel sheet as an attachment to an email using
Outlook (not Outlook Express.) The option works and the document can
be sent, however....

If I have another email open and I need to copy/paste information from
it, I cannot move between the source email and the new email, nor can I
switch between the Excel screen and the email screen. This used to
work okay, as I get many emails that I need to copy comments from, but
it isn't working for some reason now.

Any ideas?
