Error opening Excel in different version
I created a workbook with some macros, including a WorkBook Open ()
procedure in version 2000. When I open it on a system running 2002, I get the dreaded "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. The document is then opened and recovered in a "Repaired" status, except that just means it is opened and all the macros are removed. What could be the problem? Also, is there a way to open the file anyway but disable the macros so that I can eliminate macros progressively to determine which one might be the offender? Rob |

If you hold down the SHIFT key when opening the file, macros will
not run. -- Cordially, Chip Pearson Microsoft MVP - Excel Pearson Software Consulting, LLC www.cpearson.com "Rob" <none wrote in message ... Thanks Chip.
Doing that brings up a warning box that says "Cannot open Microsoft Excel Add-In for editing. Please edit the source document instead. I have also discovered that deleting the Workbook Open procedure that the workbook opens without a problem This following is the procedure and removing any part of this code, rather than the complete procedure, brings up the error message. Any ideas? Private Sub WorkBook_Open() With Sheet1 .EnableSelection = xlUnlockedCells .ScrollArea = "A1:BB53" .Protect End With Sheet2.Select 'to refresh sheet to remove some lines from sheet 1 Sheet1.Activate Range("H2").Select End Sub "Chip Pearson" wrote in message ...
