Default multiple criteria for formulas

I am writing an excel program that refrences a wok sheet and i want to write
a countif A AND B type statement, how do i do this? ex: countif (cell
reference X = 1) and (cell reference Y = 2) is there any way i can do this?
Thanks! I've been trying to figure it out for months now!
