=A1*24
Format as General (or as Number, but don't leave it as Time as Excel did)

Assuming your value is in A1

=CONVERT(A1,"day","hr")

I must not be doing something right to get 2.25 hours.

I added times of day and got 2:15 (time value format-2hours & 15
minutes). 2:15 is in cell A1. Then I tried =CONVERT(A1,"day","hr")
with Number and General format and received #NAME?. Tried =A1*24 with
Number and General format and received 0.

Please help.

But remember that the CONVERT function is only available if the Analysis
ToolPak add-in is installed.

For CONVERT you need the Analysis ToolPak add-in.

=A1*24 should work, so my guess is that your 2:15 is not formatted as time.
Check the format of A1.
