Default If protecting a sheet I lose the autosum feature, any way around

When protecting a sheet I lose the ability to use auto sum.

What I want to do is restict access so that only certain cells can be typed
into.

This is to stop the children from removing data by mistake but I still want
them to be able to use autosum etc
