Default Worksheet/table entered numbers are rewritten!

I enter the numbers "06-9832" which are then automatically changed to
"Jun-32". Why and how do I turn off this function / formatting?

Many thanks!

Precede it with a single apostrophe, ', or format the cell as text.

You can change the format of the cell to "Text", if you're application
will allow you to treat those numbers as text strings.

Format Cells Number == Text
