Default ACCESS to EXCEL problems

I’m using a ‘Transfer spreadsheet’ action in Access to export the
results of a cross tab query into an EXCEL spreadsheet. Some of the
Column headings of the cross tab query are more than 64 characters long
and when these are transferred to the excel sheet they are truncated to
64 charaters and some of the heading is lost. It is not possible to
abbreviate any field names.

Does anyone know if the problem is likely to be in ACCESS or EXCEL?
