When sorting a column in excel, the data in the other columns don't sort with
it. How do I sort the whole work sheet?

Highlight all the columns before doing the sort, then all columns will sort
with the the sort column. You can quickly highlight the whole sheet by
clicking the unmarked button in the top left hand corner of the sheet. (
Between the "A" column Button and the "1" row button.)

I never let excel guess at the range to sort.

I always select the range that I want to sort, then use Data|sort.

If you don't select the whole range, you're leaving the range to sort up to
excel and sometimes excel guesses incorrectly.
