Default Excel cannot complete this task with available resources.

Hi,

I am having a problem with a excel spreadsheet that I am using the file
is a main lookup file. I have some sparate excel files which are linked to
this file and draw information from it. It has been working fine until now.
When the file is open with the other separate excel files I can update the
information (which excel asks me to). Once updated when I try to save the
file I get the following error message :-

Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less
data or close other applications.

followed by

external links values cannot be updated.

The lookup file is 8369 rows by 10 columns. The individual excel files that
draw information from this file are small (300KB to 6MB). The lookup file is
4MB. It is getting into a problem as it is not saving some of the updates on
the small files.

I am using excel 2003 and on P4 3.0ghz, 1GB Ram machine. Can anyone help
with a possible solution.

Thanks
