Default Autoshapes and connectors

I am trying to create a diagram which contains autoshapes with text
within them taken from cells on the worksheet.
Collecting the text works OK.
I am trying to add connectors between the autoshapes (this is similar
to a PERT chart if that helps describe it).
The connectors "connect" OK but after I've added more than a handful
they "disconnect". This means that when I move an autoshape the
connector does not move with it.

Anyone come across this and sorted out what the problem is.

If it helps ...
Excel 2000 9.0.6926 SP-3 on Windows 2000.

Much obliged for any help.

If I'm correctly understanding your question, simply grouping the
objects and connectors should take care of this issue.

Hold down <SHIFT and click on all the objects and connectors you want
to move at the same time. Once they're all selected, right click one
of the objects, select Grouping... and Group.

Hope this helps.
