Default calculate message in status bar

I can't get the calculate message in the status bar to disappear. I believe
the reason is due to going over the limit of references. Is there a way to
check that and is the 65K limit per worksheet or workbook?
Thanks. Neda

The only time I've seen Calculate show up in the message bar is when
calculation is set to manual (the message prompts you that changes have been
made and the user needs to re-calculate).

This generally happens when Tools- options - calculation (tab) -
calcuation mode is set to manual. Change this to Automatic.

Alternatively hit the F9 key to refresh whenever you need to.

Thanks Guys,
but that didn't help. I work in manual mode, b/c my spread sheets are large
and it takes a while to calculate, but the problem is that even when I hit F9
it calculates up to 88% and then reverts to showing calculate again.
Thanks. Neda
