Default Help with a function

Hey guys, Im new here. I need help with a project that I'm working at
for school. I'm having problems on getting the "IF Function" right.

The book said" IF(Gross Pay - Dependents * 38.46 ) 0, =20% * (Gross
Pay - Dependents * 38.46 ), = 0 "

The way I wrote down the formula was " =if((f4-d4 * 38.46) 0, =20% *
(f4-d4
* 38.46 ), = 0) "

If i read down that way I just get a error that incorrect, I always
try
" =if(f4-d4*38.46) 0, =20% * (f4-d4 *38.46), = 0 " still give me a
error.

I hope if there anyone can help me with this?

Not sure but try taking off the unnecessary spaces and equal sign and
try again.

=if((f4-d4*38.46)0,20%*(f4-d4*38.46 ),0)

Hi Anubis.Ice,

What is it that you want to happen if...or not...?
Is 38.46 multiplied after the subtraction or before?
20%?
Additionally, you are missing some commas, and probably some () too.

Please explain in more detail.

=if((f4-d4*38.46) 0, 20% * (f4-d4 *38.46),0)

or
=max(0,20% * (f4-d4 *38.46))
