Default How to keep formats in pivot?

Each time I add a column to a pivot table, the formatting gets lost. Is
there a way to keep the format, after hiding a column?

For example, I have a column with percentage data (.32, .35, .43, etc). I
format it in the pivot to show as 32%, 35%, 43%, etc. If I remove this
column, then add it back in, the formating is lost.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
