Default Linking workbook and range protected Excel sheet to Access

I am trying to link an excel spreadsheet to Access and retain the
workbook and range protected sheets. I know the passwords but I cannot
create queries in Access without having the spreadsheets open. Is there
any way I can keep the excel sheet unopened and link it to Access?
