Default ALT+ENTER shortcut not working.

If you open excel in safe mode:

Close excel
windows start button|run
type:
excel /safe
and hit enter.

Does the alt-enter work there (while you're changing a cell)?

I'm guessing that you may have a macro that has alt-enter as a short cut key.

Here are a couple of links that may help you find that workbook with the macro:

Chip Pearson has some notes on how to diagnose startup errors at:
http://www.cpearson.com/excel/StartupErrors.htm

And Jan Karel Pieterse has more notes at:

When I want to go to a new line within a cell and hit ALT+ENTER it
automatically goes to the next cell. I've tried it with both ALT keys and
neither work.

Has anyone come across this problem before and if so, is there something I
can set to fix the problem.
