Default saving drive d

I need to save a file to a cd so I can work from home. I copy excell
spreadsheet to cd okay but it is not allowing me to make any changes (read
only). In properties the file I am trying to save is not read only but seems
to be saving itself as read-only when copied to cd. File copies fine to
floppy and allows me to edit and save. Please help.....
