Default Copy certain range of cells

If I have a spread sheet with 5000 cells being used from A-AL, and I only
want to copy and paste cells from A1,AL1 to A479,AL479. Is there any way of
typing this in to select it?

A1,AL1:A479,AL479

The colon in the middle is the key. Type this into the name box, a little
below the File menu.
