Default windows is configuring my microsoft office xp professional

recently downloaded some "essential updates " from Microsoft. I have just
tried to access excel and am told that Windows is configuring my Mo XP it
then asks me to insert a disk. I havent got any disks since I am travelling.
Any iadvice as to what I can I can do apart from never download microsoft
updates.
