Default External data

Assuming that windows makes a copy when you press CTRL + C into a file.
Say I want to pull that data file into excel. I know how to get
external data. But I want to make the operation automatic. I want to
Refresh Data every few minutes or when I prompt, but I don't know where
windows copies the data to. I don't need to look at the data file I just
need to know where it's located so that I can import it to excel. Thank
you.
