I tried to do a vlookup functin in a workbook ,the source for lookup is in
another workbook(both open).when I type
=vlookup(a6,
and then went for the other workbooks to designate the source range I do not
find the part formla in the formula bar and consequently ignoring this if I
go about the formla the formula does not work.

What could be the reason for such behaviour of the other workbook. Has the
other workbook corrupted?

the control panel? Will it work if you try
=vlookup(a6;

i.e. semicolon instead of comma?

no. in other cases vlookup with comma works. but in one or two particular
files this behaviour occurs. that is why I suspect that the file is
corrupted. Somewhere in this newsgroup I saw solutin to recover corrupted
file. shall look into it. thanks
