Default Help...my Excel is possessed

Whenever I open an excel sheet and click on a cell, it won't let go and
highlights the entire page. The only way for me to get out of it is to kill
it in the task manager. It is also affecting my ability to do a mail merge.
It was fine yesterday and not today. I scanned for viruses and came up
clean. Any ideas as to what I should do ? Thank you!
