Default Every time I type 24-7 it changes to 24/Jul no matter what

I cannot type 24-7 and leave the cell no matter what I change the format to,
it alway shanges back to date.

It is getting very frustrating!

the only way I can stop it is by putting a full stop, and this looks stupid!

Start off with a leading apostrpohe which won't show.
'24-7
Or, format the cell as Text first.

Bob Umlas has given a correct answer and short, but if you want to sort out
your data/ or information by date you will not be able to sort it.

Allways format you dates by using the menu FORMAT and change as you like or
choose the format you like. the following will change you date to 24-7 and
you are able to sort it by date.
Before you start make sure the cells you want to format are highlighted then.

Click on the menu FORMAT,CELLS, the NUMBER menu is already showing on the
screen, use the arrow to scroll down to the menu called CUSTOM.
Click or insert with your mouse in the box named TYPE: and delete the format
in the box , which looks jibirish. THEN insert or type your new format as
dd-mm then click O.K. to accept the changes.
Hope the instructions are clear to follow.
Hope this helps.
