Default Excel Templates

I have used "save as template" but document does not reopen as copy of the
original. What should I do.

It shouldn't open as a copy of the original. It should be a new workbook that's
based on that template.

Are you sure you're saving to the correct location?

And are you using File|new to create that new workbook?
