What I would do: Make several copies of a sheet I have that is typical of the kinds of spreadsheets I expect to create. Experiment with the Formatting Toolbar and the Formatting Menu to see what looks best. Also, until you are comfortable with your formatting choices, wait until you are done typing the data and performing calculations until you try to format.
