![]() I have a simple pivot table built from a single data table. There are three columns, ABC, DEF, and GHI. They are not in the order that I wish them to be, but I cannot determine how to change the column order. I wish them to be in the order of GHI, ABC, DEF. How do I change the column order? -- sennr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sennr's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=28285 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=502991 |

![]() you can simply drag the column to where you want it to be (within the pivot table of course). Drag the column heading. good luck -- DennisSunga ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DennisSunga's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=27514 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=502991 |

![]() Thanks, but it's not that simple. I guess my initial post lacked some meaningful information. The 3 columns come from codes in a single data column, so within the pivot table layout I moved the heading for that one data column to the pivot table column area. Because there are three codes, it generated 3 columns within the pivot table. Whether by design or by happenstance, within the pivot table the 3 columns representing the codes appear in alphabetical order. That might normally be fine, but alphabetical order is not the order of importance in this case, and I'm trying to arrange them order of importance. Any further ideas? -- sennr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sennr's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=28285 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=502991 |

To manually rearrange them, right-click on a cell that contains the
heading text, e.g. DEF. In the context menu, choose Order Select one of the options for moving the heading Or, you can select the heading cell, e.g. DEF, and drag it to a different position in the headings. To automatically sort the headings in your preferred order, you can create a custom list, and use it as the sort order. To create a custom list: Choose ToolsOptions Select the Custom Lists tab Click in the List Entries box, and type your list, then click OK When you create a new pivot table, items should be in the order of the custom list. To sort the items in an existing pivot table, select the field button, and choose DataSort Click the Options button, and choose your custom list sennr wrote: Thanks, but it's not that simple.
