Default Formula Split or parenthesis problem?

Is there a way to use 1 of 2 front choices, and use the string at the end,
OR do I have to completely include the string at the end, on both sides?
rough example: (thanks)

=IF(H9="","",IF(D9="yes",
OR(AND(X<A,X<B),X<C), end parenthesis here? if d9=yes use this line,
OR(AND(Y<A,Y<B),X<C,

ALL WORK WITH STRING: (each anded with)
OR(15 items)
