Default How do I stop Excel 2002 draining Available Memory

I am having a problem whereby when I open a small file in Excel 2002 say
about 300K size. The Process is requiring Excel to run at approx 138Mb of RAM.

This is resulting in Messages saying you have insufficient memory.

I need help to determine what I need to do to stop this happening.
