Default MS Query Enetreing a date as Parameter

I'm trying to build a MS Query to access a quickbooks database using dates as
parameters. So I enter [Enter Beginning Date] in the criteria and then
12/12/05 as my date when prompted which then gets either a "syntex error" or
and "failure in conversion" error? What format should I use?
