I changed the height of column A row 12 - but I can not type at the top of
the column - it only lets me type at the bottom which is of no help to me -
How can I type at the top and continue down?

If you mean type at the top of the cell then select Format Cells
Alignment and select Top in the Vertical "Text Alignment" box.

FormatCellsAlignmentWrap Text and/or VerticalTop

If you want to have internal carriage reurns in the cell, hit ALT + ENTER to
start a new line in the cell.
