Has anyone set up a spreadsheet to calculate gallonage in horizontal round tanks?

Hi,
Do you want to calculate the total volume (i.e., capacity) of a tank of given dimensions (lenth and diameter), or the volume of a liquid in a partially filled tank of given dimensions and liquid depth? If it is the former: If the tank is cylindrical (i.e., flat on both sides like a drum), the formula for volume is pi*D^2*L/4, where D is the diameter and L is the length. If the tank is rounded on both sides (and if it can be assumed that the rounded sides are hemispherical), the formula for volume is, pi*D^2(3L-D)/12. Conversion factors for cubic ft to gallon(?) a 1 cubic foot = 7.480519 US gallons (liquid) = 6.428512 US gallons (dry) = 6.228835 UK gallons. So, in Excel, enter diameter (in feet) of the tank in A1, length (in feet) in B1, and enter one of the following formulas, as appropriate, in C1. =7.480519*PI()*A1^2*B1/4 (US liquid gallons for a cylindrical tank) =7.480519*PI()*A35^2*(3*B1-A1)/12 (US liquid gallons for a rounded tank) Change the first number in the formulas appropriately (see 'conversion factors' above), if you want the volume to be expressed in the other gallon units.
