Default Optimum requirements for Excel

I am having trouble running large spreadsheets in Excel. It takes minutes to
calculate and at times locks up my computer. I would like to know what the
optimum system is for running Excel 2003 on Windows XP Professional to where
I will have no problems with slow calculation or system lock up. Thanks!

In addition to Niek's suggestion look at what the what makes the spreadsheet
big.

Optimizing speradsheets is easier if you break it into components.

is the file size large
Lots of graphs
lots of formulas
links to other files
VBA code

before Throwing hardware at a problem you may want to understand the source
of problem

PS: quickest check would be to test worst file on a friends "modern" PC and
see if all your problems are answered.

PPS: Spyware and such can kill any PC preformance
