Default How do I type number that begins with a zero to keep zero?

I am typing last four digits of social in cells and ones that begin with
zero, will not hold the zero. How do if fix this? thanks Vickie Newto

Format the cell as Custom and under the "Type" section type 0000.

Format the cells as "Text".... Format-Cells-Click on "Text"

Give the cell(s) a custom format of 0000.
Format the cells as text, then type your entry.
Start your entry with a leading apostrophe: '0012

The first one will keep the value numeric. The bottom two will treat your value
as text.

Hi!

Format the cell as text before you fill it.

Use Format Cells...NumberText.

It won't be a number anymore, but I can't imagine you want to calculate
using it...
