List of multiple repeating numbers assigned unique but likevalues with a formula

Hi, I have a list of values listed below (actual list is hundreds of thousands of lines) that I need to read as 1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 2, 2a, 2b, etc..... Is there a way to do this formulaically?
