Default pivot grouping

I know that in previous versions of Excel (I am on 03), there was a way to
set a date field to automatically show the weeks, months, years etc. as a
grouping for that field. In other words, if my field is all dates, I
remember being able to set something that said "show me the dates summarized
by the following period" (so to speak).

Is that gone, or found elsewhere that I am not looking? Thx.

Right-click on a date field button
Choose Group and Show Detail Group
