Default CELL FORMATS

This is a problem that does not make sense because I cannot find the logic
(computer type) that causes it.

I am raising a report in Access format and saving it as an Excel
spreadsheet. The first field in my report ( and so first column in Excel) is
Text/General. The content of the first 74 records/rows copies across ok. The
last good one is 5109767-01.

However, record 75 on my report reads 5109917-01 but becomes -654147 on the
spreadsheet. The remaining 27 records/rows also become -figures.

Why?
Any Ideas
