F9 is the Recalculate key. This is for when you have set
ToolsOptionsCalculations to Manual, you press F9 whenever you want to
recalculate your sheet. This is useful in very large sheets that have
many interconnected formulas that take a long time to calculate.
Setting to Manual allows you to work, uninterupted. With Automatic,
the sheet recalulates every time you change any value in any cell.

F3 is the Paste Name feature. Let's say you have a cell named
"CostOfGoodsSold" (InsertNameDefine). Somewhere else on the sheet
(or on another sheet) you want to reference the contents of that cell.
Pressing F3 brings up the Insert Name pick box. You simply select the
Range name you want and click OK. Your target cell now has the
formula: "=CostOfGoodsSold" and the cell returns the contents of that
named range. This can save retyping lengthy range names over and over
again.
