Default the system cannot find file specified

When I go to open up an Excel spreadsheet out of an email message in outlook.
I get hte message "the system cannot find the file specified".. I need to
save the file to hardrive and then open excel and then open the document.

This also happens if I try to open an excel document out of file explorer.

Any advice?

Make sure that Ignore Other Applications is not selected under Tools,
Options, General.
