Default "formula too long" error message

i get the above error message when i try to change a source link. what does
it mean and how do i correct it?

A formula can be 1024 characters long (when measured in R1C1 reference style).

Try moving your workbook to a folder that has an overall smaller length:

c:\my documents\excel\for work\January\2005\important_do_not_delay

to
C:\a
